‘Live the way Jesus lived and
love the way Jesus loved
The Good Samaritan
Luke 10:30-37
1. The Story. Jesus focused on . . .
A. The Unconcerned. Lk 10:30-31
— Aware but won’t be inconvenienced. Pass by on the other side.
B. The Uninvolved. Lk 10:32
— The levite looked out of curiosity. A rubber necker. Wanted to see how bad it was, as long as he didn’t have to be the one to respond to the need.
— By contrast we tell people that we’ll pray for them, but it’s really only an exit statement.
C. The Unexpected. Lk 10:33-37
— Which of the three dies Jesus want you to be?
1) There was a race issue. Samaritans were hated.
2) There was a response issue. When everyone else walked away, he walked in and took action.
3) There was a radical response. A display if love.
2. The Steps
1) See the need
A. Luke 10:33
B. I Corinthians 10:24
— We are responsible to respond to needs.
2) Sympathize with the people
A. Galatians 6:2
— Be aware, assess the need, then take action.
B. II Corinthians 1:3-4
C. Jude 1:22
3) Seize the moment
A. Proverbs 3:27-28
— Don’t miss the moment.
— Divine appointments can be derailed by our selection imposed blindness to other’s need.
4) Spend whatever it takes
A. Isaiah 58:10-11
— God gives His word that He will take care of the cost.
— It’s God’s business to pay back.
B. James 2:20
