  5. To Tell the Truth… Day 64 – 6/15/20

“For You, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon You. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon You, for You answer me.”
Psalm 86:5-7

There are prayers we voice right away without hesitation because our need is either urgent or immediate, or both. We need God’s help and we need it now. Unexpected trouble often brings panic and pain. But the Lord is good and faithful and attentive to every moment of our lives and He hears our urgent prayers. Praise the name of the Lord. “In the day of my trouble I call upon You, for You answer me.”
Realizing the attentiveness of God in every moment of our lives, does it not seem wise then to seek His grace in all things. David acknowledged that the Lord was good, forgiving, and abounding in steadfast love. He then wrote, “Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.” When we choose not to deal directly and honestly with the sin in our lives, we are putting the grace we need from the Lord on hold. Is God any less attentive to our prayers of confession than to our pleas in times of trouble? There is no statute of limitations on guilt . . . or on God’s forgiveness. Refusing to confess sin with the same urgency as when unexpected trouble comes, is choosing to postpone the receiving of the grace the Lord desires to lavish upon you. Why would anyone do that?
