  5. To Tell the Truth… Day 47 – Forgive Finally

“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32

Learning to forgive others is a significant part of growing spiritually in the Lord. We are commanded to forgive each other in the same manner the Lord has forgiven us in Christ. What does this look like? We have already spoke of two characteristics of forgiving others. First, we are to Forgive Freely. We don’t have to beg God to forgive us. He waits eagerly for us to confess. When we confess He is faithful and righteous to forgive us and cleanse us of all our unrighteousness. Secondly, we are to Forgive Fully. Don’t pretend it doesn’t matter. Yes, they will appreciate us saying, “Don’t worry about it, it’s okay.” But this is not what they need to hear spiritually. They need to hear us say, “I forgive you!” And mean it!
Which brings us to the third characteristic of forgiving others. We need to Forgive Finally. What does that mean? It means that when it’s buried in the grave of God’s forgetfulness, don’t keep digging it up again. We are to forgive as God forgives – remember? Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, and I will not remember your sins.” Once you have received the forgiveness of the Lord, He will never, ever bring those sins back up to you. He will never, ever through them back into our face. They are never open for discussion with Him again. And we are commanded to forgive as God has forgiven us. We are to forgive freely, forgive fully, and forgive finally. It is suppose to be a settled issue. Keep it that way!
The Lord will be extremely pleased,
