  5. To Tell the Truth… Day 46 – Forgive Fully

“And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors”
Matthew 6:12

Our focus at the moment is on answering the question – How do we forgive others? Yesterday we focused on the need to Forgive Freely. As Followers of Christ we are to forgive as God has forgiven us in Christ. We don’t have to beg God to forgive us. He is knocking on the door of our hearts wanting us to ask for forgiveness. But not only are we to forgive freely, we should Forgive Fully. When someone ask us for forgiveness, we should not pretend that it doesn’t matter. We will often say, “Don’t worry about it, it’s okay.” I get it. I’ve responded that way myself. But it is not what they really need to hear. Yes, they are relieved to hear us respond in that manner. But God doesn’t say to us, “Don’t worry about it, it’s okay.” No, He directly says, “You are forgiven.” This is what we need to hear. They need to hear us sincerely say, “I forgive you.”
When we are asking someone for forgiveness we should not simply say, “Look, if I hurt you, I apologize.” No! We need to confess fully. I have hurt you, I have wronged you, and I am sorry. People need more than an apology; they need a confession to truly and sincerely forgive. We are to forgive freely and we are to forgive fully. This is very pleasing to the Lord.
