  5. To Tell the Truth… Day 45 – Forgive Freely

“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”
Matthew 6:12

Last night in our Wednesday night Bible study we talked about four reasons why we should forgive others. There is the Grace Factor, the Guilt Factor, the Grief Factor, and the Gain Factor. I encourage you to go to our website and watch the study on May 13 – The Pardon of Prayer – because for the next several mornings I want to continue to explore this issue of forgiving others. I want to answer the question – How should we forgive?
For instance, we should first of all ‘Forgive Freely’. Does God forgive us freely? Absolutely! Do we have to beg God to forgive us? No! God is constantly knocking at our heart’s door wanting us to ask for forgiveness because He wants to forgive us. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden who took the initiative? God! When they were nailing Jesus to the cross and crucifying Him, it was Jesus praying, “Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing.” Peter asked Jesus, “How many times should I forgive my brother who has sinned against me? Seven times?” Jesus said, “Not seven times but seventy times seven.” Jesus didn’t mean 490 times and then you can stop forgiving. Jesus was saying, forget the math Peter. He meant as many times as he needed to be forgiven. Just as God is willing to forgive us. As many times as needed. Keeping count has nothing to do with it. As Paul says in I Corinthians 13, love keeps no record of wrongs. To be Godly is to be like God. As we thank Him for freely forgiving us, let’s freely forgive others.
It will keep your heart and soul spiritually healthy in the Lord,
