- To Tell the Truth… Day 11
“For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate.”
Romans 7:15
I believe we all understand the struggle Paul is referring to here in his letter to the Christians in Rome. Why do we, at times, do things as a ‘Follower of Christ’ we know we should not do? Why is it so hard, at times, to do the things we know are the right thing to do? Even after becoming a Follower of Christ there is a tug of war going on inside of us. The sinful nature we were born with is struggling against the Holy Spirit who now indwells us as children of God. The secret to doing what is right is not will power but Spirit power. It begins with knowing the Truth. “You will know the truth and the truth shall set you free – John 8:32. Behind every self-defeating decision is a lie. It may be a lie about about yourself, about God, or about life itself. A lie fed to you by the father of all lies, Satan, and embraced by your sinful nature. The scripture exhorts us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind . . .” – Romans 12:2. Renew your mind with the Word of Truth. The more we fill our hearts and minds with the truth of God the more powerful the Holy Spirit works in our lives to help us do what is right. He helps us “Take every thought captive in obedience to Christ” – II Corinthians 10:5.
Have a blessed day,
Preacher Stan
