Luke 2:7 – And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Romans 12:2 – Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
1. Let your Confession be your Obsession.
a. Christmas Cards, Carols, and Confession.
Romans 10:9-10 – because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
2 Timothy 2:19 – …”Let everyone who confesses the name of the Lord depart from iniquity. “
Luke 2: 17,19 –(17)…they (the shepherds) made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child… (19)But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart…(20) And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had head and seen, as it had been told them.
2. Let your cake make you awake.
a. Christmas Goodies
Psalm 34:8-10 – Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him. Oh, fear the Lord you his saints for those who fear him have no lack. The young lion suffer want and hunger but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
3. Let the Sock Point you to the Rock
a. Christmas Socks
Colossians 2:6 – Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him.
There’s a clock to put on your Jesus socks… If you have no socks no fellowship in Jesus’ flock.
1 John 1:5-10 – 5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
1 John 2:1-6 – My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.
Where you get that? Well is 1 Corinthians 10 Paul is warning the church to flee from idolatry…he was describing how good God was as the provider and he was describing how God provided water to drink in the wilderness and the says “and all drank from the Spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
Psalm 18:1-3 – I love you, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.
3. Let the Cup point you UP.
a. Christmas Cups
Let the Cup point you to the ONE who drinks it up and gives you a 2nd cup that blesses you up.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 – …Jesus who rescues us from the wrath to come.
Psalm 116:12-13 – What shall I render to the Lord for all his benefits to me? I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.
John 3:36- Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
Revelation 14:9-11 – 9 Then a third angel followed them, shouting, “Anyone who worships the beast and his statue or who accepts his mark on the forehead or on the hand 10 must drink the wine of God’s anger. It has been poured full strength into God’s cup of wrath. And they will be tormented with fire and burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and the Lamb. 11 The smoke of their torment will rise forever and ever, and they will have no relief day or night, for they have worshiped the beast and his statue and have accepted the mark of his name.”
4. Let the tree remind us of the gift not under the tree but on the tree.
a. Christmas Tree.
1 Peter 2:24 – He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. For you were straying life sheep but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
Galatians 3:13 – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us- for it is written “Cursed is everyone who hanged on a tree”
